Chocolate layer cake filled and topped with a cooked coconut and pecan icing.
Buttermilk chocolate cakes are popular in the south where pecans are plentiful to make
the frosting. German's chocolate was developed in 1852 by an Englishman named Sam German for Baker's Chocolate Company.
It is similar to milk chocolate and sweeter than regular baking chocolate. A recipe for "German's Chocolate Cake" first
appeared in a Dallas, Texas newspaper in 1957, sent in by a Dallas homemaker. The response to the cake was enthusiastic,
and Baker's Chocolate Company put the recipe
on the back of its box. ~Cheryl |
