Smith Island cake is our family heritage
Welcome to the Sweet Shoppe in Crisfield, MD. Our specialty is Maryland's state dessert, a moist homemade cake with 10 ultra-thin, individually baked layers carefully stacked and frosted. We bake Smith Island cakes using our family's Smith Island cake recipe. We are Cheryl and Gary Tull, and we were born and raised on Smith Island. I learned to bake the 10-layer chocolate cake from my grand cousin Frances Kitching. Most every Friday night both my mother and my grandmother would make a famous Smith Island layer cake.
